Ashbel Olmsted account books, 1839-1888.

Account books kept by Ashbel Olmsted of East Hartford, Connecticut. Both volumes contain accounts Olmsted maintained with the heirs of Samuel L. Pitkin. He was the administrator of Francis Pitkin and Sarah Pitkin's estates. He also kept an account with two Mary Ann Pitkins, one of whom was a minor, and other Pitkin minors, William H. Pitkin, Charles Pitkin, and James Pitkin. In addition, Volume A contains some personal accounts from the 1880s and Volume B contains East Hartford school records from 1839 and 1840.

Samuel Leonard Pitkin, from East Hartford, CT, entered the American Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy (forerunner of Norwich University) in 1821 and graduated in 1823. Later he was involved in the dry goods business, the manufacture of gunpowder, and banking. Pitkin also served in the Connecticut State Militia from 1823-1838, rising to the rank of major general.
